Rammed earth and rusted metal has a surprisingly pleasing appeal when used together - both in a architecture and in a garden design. This Mansfield home is the work of Ground Up Earth Builders who cleverly created a welcoming home by using such harsh elements.
To compliment the architecture of the home, I continued using the same materials in the garden. It was a pleasure to work with such bold materials and butt them together in a bold and dramatic layout. This is a garden that demanded oversized path topping, jutting boulders, crisp metal edging and then soothed with cool, defined lawns and the warmth of timber cladding.
The garden plants we choose are architectural and minimal. There was no room for fluff or softness in this garden. Each plant stands alone but at the same time takes second seat to allow the house to be seen uninterrupted. It is a garden that quietly obeys the house whilst providing the client with an intimate, functional and relaxed garden space.
